CORINTH – A new job description for a Crossroads Arena general manager is in the works, a move that will pave the way to recruit someone for the job.
The arena has stayed busy with events despite the vacancy in that position, said board Chairman Bill Strickland.
“We just came off a very busy schedule and are trying to get beyond that,” Strickland said.
Board attorney Bill Odom is drafting the new job description, which board members hope to receive soon for review, Strickland said.
In the interim the board is managing the building and grounds, he said, with the help of “very capable people on staff stepping up to the plate and filling in the gaps.”
Motocross events were held on two weekends in January and February, and the coming weeks include monster truck shows and a rodeo.
“We just got through with a very successful women’s conference presented by the hospital, and we’re talking with folks about concerts and other events in the building,” Strickland said.
The multipurpose arena opened in November 1999 and seats more than 9,000 for concerts, family shows and other events, and 3,200 for rodeos and other sporting events.
Since opening the facility has hosted trade shows, concerts, sporting events like the countywide basketball tournament, PRCA rodeo, wrestling, monster trucks, auto shows and others.
The general manager’s position has been vacant for about six months, since former manager Reggie Churchwell left in August 2009.
When the opening is ready to be posted, ads will be placed in local publications as well as publications on the entertainment circuit and as many places as possible, Strickland said.
“There’s no real target time frame,” Strickland said, “but it would be great to find a real dynamic person.”
