CORINTH – Garvin Garfield Phillips, 94, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at Cornerstone Health and Rehab.
Service is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Internment is at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. Magnolia Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Magnolia Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.
TUPELO – Jerry Williams died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Holland Funeral Directors.
ECRU – Artilia High, 99, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at Graceland Health Care in New Albany. She was a faith member of Ecru Second Baptist Church in Ecru.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ecru Second Baptist Church with Pastor Terry Baber officiating with burial in Cherry Creek Cemetery. Beasley Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by one sister, Arbella Watt; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. with family hour from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time.
VINA, Ala. – Edna Johnson James, 75, of the Burnout Community, passed away Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012. She was retired from Wrangler after more than 40 years of service. She was a member of Burnout Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed being outdoors and having a garden. She loved attending Alabama home football games and enjoyed quilting, crocheting and needle embroidery.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Burnout Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Dan Hindman officiating. Burial will be in Burnout Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home in Red Bay, Ala., will be in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Johnnie Houston James; sons, Jerry James (Lynette) and Terry James (Cyndi); eight grandchildren, Heather Schwartz (Meyer), Neesha Scott (Derek), Amy Bolding (Brad), Todd James (Kendra), Emily Hagood (Jon), Katie James, Sara Gillentine (Joe) and Anna Barksdale (Ryan); 13 great-grandchildren, Kade, Kyser, Madelyn, Kylee, Coby, Brady, Khloe, Zoe, Bree, Noah, Harper, Isabelle, Eva Claire and Baby Scott due in February; three sisters-in-law, Marv Coats, Martha Oliver and Barbara Collum (Forby).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sumpter and Altie Johnson; and brothers, Hershel and Sam Johnson.
Pallbearers will be Todd James, Brad Bolding, Derek Scott, Jon Hagood, Joe Gillentine, Ryan Barksdale, Ronald Coats, Richard Townsend and Tommy Townsend.
IUKA – James D. Mitchell, 51, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at Tishomingo Community Living Center in Iuka. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka.
STARKVILLE – Richard Dwayne Gann, 7 months, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville. He was born Jan. 5, 2012.
Service was at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Southern Funeral Chapel in Houston with Bro. Randy Rinehart and Bro. Jason Green officiating. Interment is at McClellan Cemetery in Sturgis.
He is survived by his parents, Samantha Parker of Starkville and Neal Gann of Houston; his grandparents, Alicia Roman and Shawn King of Starkville and Casey Parker of Hamilton, Floyd “Rooster” and Rena Gann and Rita Lewis and Jimmy Capps, all of Houston; his great-grandparents, Alice McKenzie of Sturgis, Virginia Parker of Starkville, Billy Miller of Columbus, Laura Gann and Richard Lee and Linda Gann, all of Houston and Sue Holder of Houston; great-great-grandmother, Mary Gann of Houston; uncles, Austin Parker and Vince Nabors; and aunt, Courtney Gann.
He is preceded in death by his great-grandfathers, Bud Gann, Kenneth Holder and Dwayne McKenzie; and a great-uncle, Timothy Stewart.
Pallbearers will include Bobby Pennington and Casey Parker.

TIPLERSVILLE – Jeanette Lettie Meeks, 90, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at Tippah County Nursing Home in Ripley. She was born on April 26, 1922, to John David and Mellie Evie Lancaster Meeks in Tiplersville. She was a homemaker and a farmer. She was a honor graduate of Chalybeate High School and a member of Tiplersville Baptist Church. She was a true animal lover and enjoyed cooking, especially for her pets.
Service is at 1 p.m. Tuesday at McBride Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tummy Bass officiating. Internment is at Tiplersville Cemetery.
She is survived by her sister, Evie Estes of Memphis, Tenn.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Cordie Smith, Rubie Ione Meeks, Ethel Meeks and Muzette Meeks; and brothers, Richard Meeks, Willie Cecil Meeks and Roy Meeks.
