Corinth man dies in Prentiss County jail

BOONEVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Authorities are awaiting autopsy results for a Corinth man who died over the weekend after collapsing at the Prentiss County jail in Booneville.

Sheriff Randy Tolar tells the Daily Corinthian that 28-year-old Marterious Jerrod Swinney was talking on the telephone in the jail around 11:15 a.m. Saturday when he collapsed.

Tolar says Swinney was transported by ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Booneville where he was pronounced dead.

Tolar says Swinney had been booked into the jail around 10 a.m. Friday and was being held for the First District Drug Court.

Tolar says the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the investigation.
