The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks has received funding for prescribed burning on private lands. The “Fire on the Forty” campaign will promote the appropriate use of fire, an important tool for forest and wildlife management.
The program will reimburse projects in six counties up to 50 percent of costs for prescribed burning. Counties involved in Northeast Mississippi include Monroe and Prentiss.
Landowners must submit an application for entry into the competitively ranked program, and all prescribed burning must be conducted by a Certified Prescribed Burn Manager.
