Council members want more info on Tupelo police probe

TUPELO – City Council members Willie Jennings and Nettie Davis today urged Mayor Jack Reed Jr. to publicize details of a Nov. 24 incident involving a policeman who allegedly tampered with an investigation of his son.
But Reed said he won’t release information about the incident until the Police Department finishes its internal investigation.
The conflict centers on a police officer who, upon hearing that his son crashed a vehicle into a building on Robert E. Lee Drive, arrived at the scene and took his son home.
The father’s actions prevented investigating officers from determining whether the man was impaired.
The officer has not been publicly identified.
