Couple arrested after leaving baby in car

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A Texas couple has been arrested for allegedly leaving a 7-month-old child alone in a car parked at a Wal-Mart.

Sunday’s Clarion Ledger reported that 36-year-old Thomas Morris and 28-year-old Theresa Sheppard were charged with felony child neglect. Sheppard also faces charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

The child was checked at the hospital and placed with family members.

The police department received a call at about 1:50 p.m. from a shopper who heard the infant crying and saw it alone in the vehicle, according to information from Flowood Detective Ricky McMillian.

Morris returned to the vehicle as officers tried to open it. He unlocked the doors and was taken into custody without incident.

Sheppard, who was still inside the store, was accused of resisting arrest.
