Police are investigating an allegation that 21-year-old Chicago Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro sexually assaulted a woman.

Officer John Mirabelli would only say police are investigating the allegation. Castro has not been charged with a crime.

Jay Reisinger and Michael Gillespie are Castro’s attorneys. They said in an emailed statement that the allegation is baseless. Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer acknowledged the allegation Friday but declined to comment on it in any detail.

Castro is a 21-year-old native of the Dominican Republic. He and was chosen to the National League All-Star team last year in his first full major league season.
