TUPELO – A man’s body was found in Tulip Creek in Lee County Monday afternoon.
Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson said a man was walking along Tulip Creek, less than a mile between the intersection of Highway 6 and Eason Boulevard, near Plantersville, when he found a man’s body had washed up in the creek.
Officials were dispatched at about 2:30 p.m. to the scene.
Johnson said the body was of a fully-clothed male. Out-of-state identification was found in the man’s pocket, but Johnson said there was no way to know yet if the ID belonged to the man. Johnson said it appeared the body had been in the lake “for some time.” The sheriff released no further details about the man’s identification.
The body has been sent to Jackson for autopsy.
Traffic was blocked on Highway 6 Monday afternoon as officials worked to recover the body.
