JACKSON — Candidates face a Tuesday deadline to qualify for governor and other statewide offices in Mississippi, but few Democrats have signed up.
As of Monday, Republicans had filed for all eight statewide offices. Democrats had qualified for only three offices — governor, attorney general and agriculture commissioner.
It was not immediately clear whether Democrats would field candidates for lieutenant governor, treasurer, secretary of state, auditor or insurance commissioner.
Tuesday is also the qualifying deadline for the three positions on the Transportation Commission and the three spots on the Public Service Commission.
All three public service commissioners and two of the three transportation commissioners are running again.
