DEPUTY SHOOTS WANTED MAN DURING CHASE
NEW ALBANY – A Union County sheriff’s deputy has been been placed on administrative leave after shooting a man during a chase.
Jimmy Lee Triplett, age unavailable, of Benton County was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County Wednesday with a gunshot wound to his lower body. Triplett had been treated and released as of late Thursday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The deputy, whose name was not released, has been placed on a standard administrative paid leave while the department and the Mississippi Highway Patrol conduct an investigation into the shooting.
The incident started about 2 p.m. Wednesday when a deputy spotted Triplett walking along railroad tracks along County Road 70 near Myrtle.
Officials would not detail exactly how Triplett was injured.
Officials say Triplett was wanted by Union County officials on a forgery charge. He was also wanted by Benton County officials on burglary charges.
