SOUTHAVEN – The future DeSoto County Civic Center could include an amusement park, more convention hall space, a larger arena, a second ice rink, hotels and a possible performing arts complex.
A vision for the 10-year-old Southaven facility was revealed in its updated master plan prepared by architect Doug Thornton.
Thornton was hired by the board of the DeSoto County Convention and Visitors Bureau to update the civic center’s 10-year-old master plan, a blueprint for its future development and expansion.
After three months, The Commercial Appeal reports Thornton presented the completed new master plan to the CVB board during its meeting last week.
A performing arts complex is called the most “visionary” of all elements in the master plan. It calls for the complex being a 1,500-seat theater with an orchestra pit.
