The Interstate 69 trade belt from Mexico to Canada includes 25 miles of four-lane highway from Interstate 55 near Hernando through DeSoto and Marshall counties to the Tennessee state line. Work began in 2011 with completion expected in fall 2015.
The Commercial Appeal reports the action was taken Monday.
The money comes through the Mississippi Department of Transportation’s Highway Enhancement through Local Partnerships bond program. The funds are repaid by the Federal Highway Administration, with the state Transportation Commission handling debt service.
Board of Supervisor President Lee Caldwell of Nesbit says the interstate will open up the county to economic development and business growth.
