DeSoto Co. utility approves waste-water budget

HERNANDO, Miss. (AP) — The DeSoto County Regional Utility Authority has approved unanimously a $6.4 million wastewater treatment budget for the new fiscal year beginning Oct. 1.

Under the new budget, the county’s five municipalities will be charged $2.85 per 1,000 gallons. The utility authority has no control over how much each city, in turn, charges residents or businesses.

Also at the utility authority’s meeting this week, The Commercial Appeal reports (http://bit.ly/S8SmeU ) board member heard that the transition to a new facilities manager is going smoothly. The Severn Trent firm is taking over operations from United Water.

The new budget for fiscal 2013-14 charges Hernando, Horn Lake, Olive Branch, Southaven and Walls 6 cents more than the current $2.79 rate.
