HERNANDO — DeSoto County has received a $150,000 federal grant to study possible development along the Interstate 69/269 International Trade Corridor.
The grant was announced Wednesday by the U.S. Commerce Department.
DeSoto County planning director Jim McDougal tells The Commercial Appeal that the study is expected to take 18 to 24 months.
McDougal says the interstate corridor will be the primary socio-economic engine for the Mid-South in the 21st century.
The DeSoto County portion of the I-69 corridor extends about 30 miles from U.S. Highway 61 on the west to the DeSoto-Marshall County line on the east.
Local officials say DeSoto County will be in position as an international center for manufacturing and research and development.
