Update 1:26 p.m.

I exchanged text messages with Deuce McAllister a few minutes ago. He confirms his interest in joining the Ole Miss coaching staff in a yet-to-be named role.

Discussions are on-going.

“We have talked,” McAllister said. “We have just talked in general. Nothing specific has been discussed.”

McAllister, of Morton, played at Ole Miss from 1997-2000. He was team captain as a senior and remains the Rebels’ career leader in rushing yards with 3,060 and in rushing touchdowns with 37.

There is some web chatter about Deuce McAllister joining the Ole Miss coaching staff, perhaps as a GA, but nothing official. An Ole Miss spokesman says, “There’s nothing to report at this time.” McAllister, a former Ole Miss player and all-pro with the Saints, was in Oxford over the weekend and made an appearance at the Rebels’ basketball game against South Carolina.
