DEVELOPING: Authorities at Veterans Park after child reported missing in water

UPDATE: 10: 45 p.m. – According to friends and family members, the child’s name is Chance Nobles.


UPDATE 5:54 p.m. – Press release from Tupelo Police Department – Tupelo Police are investigating the injury of a 7- year-old victim. The victim is in critical condition and currently being transferred to Le Bonheur Childrens Hospital in Memphis. The victim apparently wandered off from his caretaker at Veterans Park and fell into the lake and was overcome by the water. Tupelo Police are still investigating the incident and have no further information at this time.


UPDATE: Authorities are saying a child, who was pulled out of Veterans Park Lake Friday afternoon, is alive as of 5:20 p.m. and being rushed to Memphis hospital. More as it is available.


A child was taken to the North Mississippi Medical Center hospital late Friday afternoon after being pulled from the water of Veterans Park Lake in Tupelo.

No official information is available at this time about the child’s status. The call came in to authorities at 3:50 p.m. that the child was in the water, but had not been seen in several minutes.

Two witnesses Hazel Wilson and Sandra Wells said they came to the park and saw four children swimming and then heard screaming.

Mike Thomas with the Tupelo Fire Department said firemen were able to locate the young child and pull him out of the water in a minute after arriving.
