TUPELO – Motors – not just motorcycles – will crank up during the third annual Memorial Day Weekend Dixie Thunder Run.
“All bikes, all cars, all vehicles, everyone is invited on the ride,” said Tony Shackleford, Dixie Thunder Run director. “It’s not just for Harley-Davidson riders.”
Saturday’s event is a fundraiser for Operation First Response, which provides emergency financial assistance to service members and their families.
“It’s all about helping these soldiers and their families,” Shackleford said. “It’s what we do.”
Registration is ongoing at www.dixiethunderrun.net, and people will be able to register at the BancorpSouth Arena starting at 7:30 a.m. Saturday.
The cost is $30, and that includes a T-shirt, a Dixie Thunder Run lapel pin and entrance to a riders’ reception at Roadhouse Tunica Casino & Hotel.
Riders will have a Mississippi Highway Patrol escort when they leave the arena parking lot at 9 a.m. The route will go to Southern Thunder Harley-Davidson in Southaven, where it will pick up more participants for the trip to Tunica.
During the riders’ reception, more than $5,000 in cash and prizes will be raffled off, including $750 in cash, concert tickets to hear Three Doors Down on Nov. 16 and free hotel stays at the Roadhouse.
Tickets also will be sold for a pair of Harley-Davidson motorcycles to be raffled off during the Labor Day Dixie Thunder Run.
“We invite everyone to participate,” Shackleford said, “and help our soldiers and their families.”
