A Pontotoc man has been charged this morning with violation of the city’s vicious dog ordinance after a woman was bitten by a German Shepherd dog when she was paying her rent at Affordable Mini-Storage on Highway 6 West in Pontotoc Tuesday afternoon.

Pontotoc Police Chief Larry Poole said the dog’s owner, H. L. James, who also owns the storage business, has been charged with violation of the vicious dog ordinance for allowing a vicious dog to be at large.

The dog attacked Dorothy Grisham as she was attempting to pay the rent on her storage unit. Mrs. Grisham was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo where she was treated and released after having 15 outside stitches to close the wound to her upper arm.

She also will be treated with a series of rabies shots, according to her son Johnny Grisham.
