Dole to campaign in Tupelo
Suzanne Rogers, executive director of Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole’s campaign in Mississippi, addressed members of the Lee County Republican Party Thursday afternoon and announced that Dole plans to visit Tupelo as part of his campaign.
“It is in the works for Sen. Dole to come to the Tupelo area before Super Tuesday,” Rogers said.
No firm date has been set. The Super Tuesday primary is March 12.
Dole, the Senate majority leader from Kansas, visited Tupelo in 1994 while campaigning for 1st District U.S. House candidate Roger Wicker of Tupelo. Wicker went on to win the seat.
Rogers was in Tupelo Thursday to kick off organizing efforts in the 1st District. Gov. Kirk Fordice is state chairman for Dole’s campaign and U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran of Mississippi is Dole’s Southern campaign co-chairman. Luther Millsaps is executive director of the Lee County Republican Party.
