DSU nursing school gets donation

CLEVELAND — Delta State University’s Robert E. Smith School of Nursing has received $59,600 from North Sunflower Medical Center to fund its student navigator position.

A student navigator is a master’s-prepared counselor who works with nursing and pre-nursing students on study, test taking, and time management skills, as well as with personal counseling and referrals.

The position was created in 2005. Grants have funded the position for five years.

NSMC CEO Bill Marlow says the hospital stepped in to help continue a program that had been “raising the bar for quality health care in the Delta.”
