DUMAS – The U. S. Postal Service will hold a public hearing Tuesday Oct. 4 at 6 p.m. at the Dumas Town Hall to get local residents’ reaction to proposed federal plans to close the Dumas Post Office, Mayor Bradley Lawson said this week.
Post offices in Dumas and Tiplersville in Tippah County are on a list of 3,700 outlets the U. S. Postal Service wants to close, as the USPS struggles with declining revenues and mounting losses.
As of this week, there were no plans to hold a similar meeting in the Tiplersville area.
The USPS didn’t indicate when it would finish its study of the proposed closures. Some may remain open. Some of the 1,400 outlets USPS earlier this year marked for closure have thus far avoided being shut.
Sixty-one of those sites are in Mississippi.
