EASTER SEALS SOCIETY HOPES TO MEET GOALS
The Mississippi Easter Seals Society is going for the grand during a two week fund-raising event that begins Monday and ends May 17.
The local campaign will have 30 volunteers striving to raise $1,000 each. Coordinating the effort are Pam Tucker, Tupelo community chairman for Easter Seals, and Walt Shinault, president of the Mississippi Easter Seals Board of Directors.
“We thought this was a good way to raise the funds we need to assist persons with disabilities in the Tupelo and Lee County area,” Tucker said. “At least 75 percent of the funds raised are for the purpose of providing services to people in Lee County.”
Volunteers will raise their $1,000 in a variety of ways. Some will request donations while others may hold small events, such as dinners or entertainment for which they will charge a fee.
The Mississippi Easter Seals Society provides direct services to the state’s children and adults with disabilities. Most of the money raised stays in the state, with a significant portion being used to provide a variety of services instead of administrative costs or overhead. Services include providing durable medical equipment such as wheelchairs, closed-caption televisions, or therapy and rehabilitative programs.
