Ecru hopes stimulus can provide sidewalks

ECRU – Mayor Tom Todd reported that Tupelo Police Department recently donated a retired police car to the town. “It’s a ‘96 model, and even if we have to scrap it we can use it for parts,” he said. Following up on a request made by the board at a previous meeting, James Akins gave an estimate of $277,000 for sidewalk repair within the town.
The estimate was requested in hopes that money will become available for such purposes through the stimulus package. Although it was decided to table the matter unless funds become available, Alderman Bill Nance suggested that the town check into the cost of removing the existing sidewalks that are in need of repair. In other action for the evening, the older model Ford Ranger truck from the water and sewer department was declared surplus, and it was agreed to advertise for bids on it.
