n Pontotoc native Patricia Powell McCrary was inducted into the National Teacher Hall of Fame on Friday.
McCrary, who graduated from Pontotoc High School in 1976, has taught for 21 years in Texas and Kentucky. She currently is a kindergarten teacher at Cumberland Trace Elementary School in Bowling Green, Ky.
She has been recognized on the local, state and national levels. She was named Kentucky Teacher of the Year and honored by USA Today.
She was recognized recently by her alma mater, Blue Mountain College with an education award for her contributions at her 30-year reunion.
This year, she is one of five people being inducted into the the National Teachers Hall of Fame, which is sometimes called the Academy Awards for education.
Her parents are June Powell, who still lives in Pontotoc County, and the late Jimmy Powell.
