JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has filed a complaint against a Louisiana health care company that does business in south Mississippi.

The EEOC claims LHC Group Inc. violated the Americans with Disabilities Act by firing an employee who suffered an epileptic seizure after years of satisfactory employment.

The complaint, filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Mississippi, said LHC Group of Lafayette, La., does business as Gulf Coast Homecare in south Mississippi, including the town of Picayune.

The EEOC says Kristy Michele Sones worked for the company since 2006 and was promoted in March 2009. She suffered a seizure in May 2009, and according to the complaint, was fired about month later due to a disability, epilepsy.

LHC Group’s attorney, Pete November, said he’ll review the complaint and “respond accordingly.”
