TUPELO – Eight candidates for the 1st District congressional seat will speak during Saturday’s Tea Party Express III event in front of City Hall.
As of Thursday, confirmed as speakers were Republicans Angela McGlowan, Alan Nunnelee and Henry Ross; independents A.G. Baddley, Les Green and Wally Pang; Constitution Party candidate Gail Giaramita; and Barbara Dale Washer of the Reform Party.
They are among the 10 candidates hoping to unseat incumbent Democrat Travis Childers. Also in the race are Libertarian Harold M. Taylor and independent Rick “Rico” Hoskins.
Tupelo is one of the stops on the national Tea Party Express III tour, which began Saturday in Nevada and ends April 15 in Washington, D.C. The theme is “Just Vote Them Out!” in anticipation of the 2010 congressional elections.
Organizers say the Tea Party Express buses are expected to arrive at 4 p.m. and leave at 6 p.m. At that point the candidates will speak 5-7 minutes each.
If the buses are running late, candidates will begin speaking at 4 p.m.
The event’s advertised time is 3:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m.
