Eminent domain amendment attacked in lawsuit

Leland Speed, the executive director of the Mississippi Development Authority, has filed a
lawsuit against Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann attempting to block an eminent domain initiative from being placed on the November ballot.
The initiative, sponsored by the Mississippi Farm Bureau, is designed to prevent the government from taking private property for the use of another private entity.
In a statement, Hosemann said he intended to place the initiative on the ballot for voters to
decide unless ordered not to be the courts.
