Clinton, Miss. (AP) — A female employee at the Clinton Wal-Mart was not seriously injured when she was stabbed in an apparent random attack.
According to Sunday’s Clarion-Ledger, 47-year-old Jackie Spears, of Jackson, Tenn., allegedly saw the employee come out of the automotive department to check vehicles at about 9 a.m., Saturday then attacked her, cutting her arm with a four-inch folding knife.
The woman ran back into the store, and Spears pursued. But Clinton Police Chief Don Byington says police near the scene responded within two minutes.
Byington says the victim did not know Spears, nor was it clear why he was in Clinton.
The victim was taken to UMC, treated and released.
Spears was in Clinton jail awaiting transfer to Hinds County Correctional Center.
