Event to urge a closer relationship with God

TUPELO – A group of Christian women is coming to the All America City to encourage their sisters to enter more deeply into their relationships with God.
The Extraordinary Women Conference 2010 will take place Friday and Saturday at the BancorpSouth Arena, and it promises to offer something interesting to women of differing tastes: music from acclaimed Christian contemporary artists, “MercyMe,” along with testimonies from best-selling authors like Stormie Omartian and Lysa TerKeurst, as well as comedy from Chonda Pierce.
Extraordinary Women’s website describes the conference as “not an event,” but “a lifestyle,” and it’s designed to equip women to deal with life’s difficulties as well as to enhance their spiritual lives.
The parent company for Extraordinary Women is the American Association of Christian Counselors.
“Who better to minister to and reach women than other women?” said Pierce, who will offer her comedy stylings Friday evening.
Pierce said that Christians, like society at large, have sometimes been guilty of marginalizing women, but that clearly isn’t in keeping with the message of the Bible.
“The validity of women is all through scripture,” said Pierce. “From the woman who anointed the feet of Jesus to strong women like Deborah, in the Old Testament, females play an important role God’s plan.”
