BATESVILLE — The former city clerk in Sardis has been sentenced to 2-1/2 years in prison for embezzlement.
Odessa Johnson also was placed on five years’ post-release supervision by a Panola County judge this past week. She was ordered to make restitution of $30,720 in principal and interest.
State Auditor Stacey Pickering says Johnson was employed with the city of Sardis from September 2001 through June 4, 2009.
Pickering says Johnson was accused of embezzling $28,033 by allegedly taking funds from various city collection funds and by using the city’s credit card for personal use.
Pickering says money was taken from water bill collections, court collections, property tax collections and payments for the marina lease, payments for dispatch services and by using the City of Sardis’ credit card for personal use.
