VICKSBURG — A former assistant football coach at a private school in Warren County will stand trial Aug. 29 on charges of robbing a bank and leading police on a chase before wrecking his vehicle.

The Vicksburg Post reports Derrick Collins, formerly of Porters Chapel Academy, was indicted this week by a grand jury. The trial date was set by Circuit Judge M. James Chaney.

Prosecutors say Collins is accused of robbing the Britton and Koontz Bank on U.S. Highway 61 North of about $3,000 on Dec. 14, 2010.

According to court documents, prosecutors say Collins, armed with a handgun, entered the bank and demanded money. He allegedly threatened a teller, took cash and left. No customers were in the bank, and no one was injured.
