TUPELO – A former Alabama mayor has been ordered to pay her former employer in Tupelo more than $185,000 for failing to perform her responsibilities.
Mignon Willis, who served as mayor in Cherokee, Ala., was hired by Rehab Solutions as an accountant in 2003 and was accused of failing to pay bills and taxes owed by the company, resulting in state officials placing a tax lien on the business.
Last week, a jury awarded Rehab Solutions $133,574 in compensatory damages and ordered her to pay $50,000 in punitive damages.
Company officials declined to comment on the ruling.
