GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) — A former Greenville firefighter has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to the slaying of a 26-year-old woman in 2010.

District Attorney W. Dewayne Richardson says in a news release that Marcus Roberson entered the plea Friday to murder in Washington County Circuit Court.

Richardson says the body of Turry Ferguson was found inside her Greenville apartment on Dec. 1, 2010. Richardson says the mother of three was stabbed multiple times.

Richardson says Roberson is the father of the children.

Roberson had been scheduled for trial Monday in Greenville.
