Ex-Montgomery juror pleads to perjury

WINONA — A juror from the 2008 capital murder trial of Curtis Giovanni Flowers in Montgomery County has pleaded guilty to two counts of perjury.

Mary Purnell had said during jury selection she didn’t know Flowers. But records showed Purnell was on Flowers’ jail visitation list.

Flowers was accused of fatally shooting four people at Tardy Furniture in Winona in 1996. The trial ended with a hung jury and a new trial is scheduled in 2010.

The Clarion-Ledger reports that Purnell was sentenced Monday to 10 years on each count with all but 15 months suspended. Purnell also will serve two years on probation once she is released.
