YAZOO CITY – David Chandler, former Panola County administrator, began serving a 14-month prison sentence April 22.
Attorneys for Chandler recently asked for more time to appeal his 2011
guilty plea in schemes to embezzle from and defraud the county.
They urged the federal court to allow his appeal, even though it was two weeks past the deadline.
They said Chandler had been so depressed by his situation that he could not remember whether he’d been advised of his right to appeal.
U.S. District Judge Sharion Aycock also sentenced him to restitution of $33,564, a $40,000 fine and 200 days of community service in Panola County.
