COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) — A former Columbus Police Department reserve officer has pleaded guilty to rape.

The Commercial Dispatch reports that Richard Carr entered the plea Monday in Lowndes County Circuit Court.

Circuit Judge Jim Kitchens set sentencing for Aug. 31.

The 46-year-old Carr pleaded guilty to two counts of statutory rape.

Prosecutors say he was accused of having sex with his girlfriend’s underage daughter while he was baby-sitting her and her siblings.

Prosecutors say the girl was 13 and 14 when the incidents occurred. She is now 15.

Prosecutors say Carr was arrested in Oktibbeha County in 2009 after the victim confessed to her mother, who had been at work when the incidents occurred.
