Expect some traffic changes in Tupelo for Elvis festival

TUPELO – Traffic might be tricky at times during the 2011 Elvis Presley Festival, which opens today.
Troy Street is closed between South Commerce and Fairpark streets, and South Commerce is closed between Troy and Main streets.
North Broadway Street between Jefferson and Court streets is closed.
The next closing will be 5:30 p.m. today, when Main Street will close from Front to Fairpark streets.
In addition, North Commerce Street will close from the north entrance of the Park Heights/Fairpark Grill parking lot to Main Street.
The Running with the King 5K race will start at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at Veteran’s Park, and a portion of Veterans Boulevard will be closed for about 45 minutes.
The Elvis Presley Festival Parade will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, and it’ll travel from Church Street School on North Church Street, then turn east on Main Street and end at Front Street.
The Riding with the King bicycle event includes races throughout downtown on Saturday and Sunday. Except for bicycle races, normal traffic patterns will resume on Sunday.
In addition, the Front Street parking lot will be closed for the festival to make room for a carnival.
