FULTON – Some recent thefts at Itawamba County’s port have prompted county leaders to purchase a little extra security for the area.
During the Itawamba County Board of Supervisors’ recent meeting, Itawamba County Development Council Executive Director Greg Deakle asked the board to consider purchasing new fencing and an electronically locked gate for the port. He said the port’s current security isn’t up to snuff, as evidenced by a number of minor thefts in recent months.
The board approved purchasing and installing the new fencing and locks, which is estimated at $7,200.
Deakle said items stolen from the port after hours include gas and batteries.
