Facilities should open no later than next summer

TUPELO – About the only thing missing from the Fairpark District, amid the offices, businesses, restaurants and residences, have been places to take care of nature's call. But plans for public restrooms in Fairpark are under way.

The Tupelo Redevelopment Agency on Thursday unanimously approved $50,000 for design services that will develop a plan for restrooms and an arbor near the dancing fountain.

Once the plans are made, TRA Chairman Chris Rogers said, an anonymous benefactor has agreed to donate the money needed to build the actual facility. The funds will be administered by the CREATE Foundation.

“It's something that's been needed and we didn't know if we had the money to do it and then this person stepped up,” Rogers said.

TRA expects the restrooms to be open by next summer, if not earlier.
