TUPELO – Harper Shaw Wood’s Papaw Jerry Holder had a feeling she might share a royal birthday.

“Sometime last week, my dad said, wouldn’t that be cool,” said mom Brandi Wood. “You can change her name to princess,” she remembers him joking.

When Brandi and Bryan Wood, who live in the Fairview community, arrived at the North Mississippi Medical Center Women’s Hospital on Monday morning to prepare for a Caesarian section, Jerry Holder was helping them get settled when they turned on the news to see that Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge were bringing the future King of England into the world.

“Oh, Daddy, look, you were right,” Brandi Wood remembers telling him.

Harper Shaw Wood arrived at 7:30 a.m. Monday, weighing in at 6 pounds, 10 ounces. She was one of four babies born Monday at the Tupelo hospital.

Harper joins siblings Glori, 6, Gage, 9, and Kennady Roper-Wood, 17 and grandparents Jerry and Amelia Holder of Fulton and Bobby and Janice Wood of the Fairview community.

Mostly, their friends have gently teased the Itawamba County family about their royal connections, suggesting arranged marriages and such.

“It’s mostly been a big joke,” said Brandi Wood, “but it is kind of neat to share a birthday with royalty.”
