TUPELO – Funeral services were scheduled Saturday
for a Mooreville soldier who died while on his tour of duty last week.
Visitation for Sgt. 1st Class Billy A. Sutton will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Holland Funeral Home in Tupelo. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Tupelo Chapel. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Sutton, 42, died from a medical condition in Uruzgan province, Afghanistan, Tuesday while serving on his third tour of duty.
He was serving with the 288th Sapper Company based in Houston, conducting route clearance. The company is part of the larger 223rd Engineer Battalion out of West Point.
Sutton enlisted in the National Guard Sept. 5, 2001.
He previously served two tours of duty in Iraq.
Sutton had a wife, Traci Sutton of Mooreville, and a stepson.
