Family: Lockhart service a celebration of her life

HAMMOND, La. — Family and friends of a young woman whose dismembered body washed ashore in Mississippi say 23-year-old Jaren Lockhart’s funeral was a celebration of her life.

WWL-TV reports that friend Christa Bourque wore hot pink and black Thursday night because those were Lockhart’s favorite colors. She said Lockhart’s brother Lance wore those colors for the same reason.

Dozens of people attended the service at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home in Hammond.

They said Lockhart loved being a mother, writing, and dancing, and dreamed of being a hairdresser. Originally from Albany, Lockhart was living in New Orleans, working as a dancer on Bourbon Street.

Kenner residents Margaret Sanchez and Terry Speaks are considered suspects in the killing but have not been charged with it. They’re being held on unrelated charges.
