CLARKSDALE — The Mississippi Delta Council for Farm Workers Opportunities will received a $1.2 million grant to serve migrant and seasonal farm workers in 39 Delta-area counties.
The grant was announced this week by U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss. Thompson says the grant is from the U.S. Department of Labor.
Thompson says the National Farm Worker Jobs Program helps farm workers upgrade their agricultural job skills or acquire new skills in industries that offer higher wages and more stable employment.
He said the program also provides services such as transportation, nutrition and child care.
The grant covers a two-year period but is funded on an annual basis.
