NEW ALBANY – State troopers are still sorting out what caused a three-car crash in Union County that claimed the lives of two people Monday.
Killed in the accident shortly after 5 p.m. were Justin Allen Nance, 20, and Mary S. Kennamore, 43, both of Blue Mountain.
State Trooper Ray Hall said authorities reported that a 2005 Ford F-250 driven by Nance was southbound on County Road 81 when he lost control and crossed the center lane, colliding with Kennamore, and another vehicle driven by Louise Cattaneo, 40, of Blue Mountain.
Nance and Kennamore were pronounced dead at the scene and Cattaneo was taken to Baptist Memorial Union County and treated for a laceration to the head.
Hall said a trooper was trying to stop Nance at the time of the accident.
Passengers in the Ford F-250 were Matthew Barnes, 22, of Falkner, and a 2-year-old. The toddler was transported, treated and released with minor injuries at Baptist Memorial Union County in New Albany. Barnes was being treated there.
Both the Highway Patrol and the New Albany Police Department are investigating the accident.
