Felony child neglect charges filed in Jackson case

By The Associated Press

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Authorities say a 24-year-old woman is charged with felony child neglect after three youngsters were found alone in a rental home in south Jackson.

Hinds County Constable Jerry Moore found the children in squalid conditions Tuesday while trying to serve an eviction notice. When nobody answered, Moore went inside and found a pre-teen, a toddler and an infant in a closet. Officials say there was some confusion about the children’s ages.

The Clarion-Ledger reports that Lena Crosby, one of the renters, was arrested later.

Capt. Henry Glaze of the Hinds County Sheriff’s Child Protection Unit says it was not immediately clear who the parents of the children are.

Officials say the children were taken into custody of the Department of Human Services and did not appear to have medical problems.
