Hed: War Eagle’ claims top film prize

“War Eagle, Arkansas,” made its Mississippi premiere during the Tupelo Film Festival.

TUPELO – The story of a young man caught between baseball and his family is this year’s winner of the Ron Tibbett Award for Overall Excellence at the Tupelo Film Festival.

“War Eagle, Arkansas,” also took the Best Feature prize during a Saturday awards ceremony at the Lyric Theatre.

The Ron Tibbett Award is named after the late founder of Starkville’s Magnolia Film Festival. Tibbett was instrumental in starting the Tupelo Film Festival.

n Feature – “Greetings from the Shore,” second place.

n Documentary – “Finding Kraftland,” first place; “Chasin’ Gus’ Ghost,” second place.

n Short – “English Language,” first place; “Book of Wisdom,” second place; “Epicac,” honorable mention.

n Best Music Video – “Trainwreck.”

n Best Experimental – “Standing on a Whale.”

n Best Student – “The Father.”

n Best Young Filmmaker – “The Honest Shepherd.”

n Made in Mississippi – “Escape from 13.”

n Special Humanitarian Award – Adrian Belic (“Genghis Blues,” “Beyond the Call”); Dr. Jim Laws (“Beyond the Call”).
