Festival of Hope raises more than $87,000

The 10th annual Festival of Hope has raised more than $87,000 for area patients with heart disease, cancer and diabetes.
“There’s No Place Like Hope” was the theme for this year’s event presented by Project Hope and North Mississippi Medical Center on Feb. 27.
Avonlea Assisted Living Center raised $4,829 to win the corporate category. North Mississippi Medical Center’s Facts and Figures Team was the winning hospital team, raising $13,000. Hatley Beta Club took first place in the community category by raising $1,500. Mabel Murphree won the individual fundraising honor by raising $7,900.
For the second year in a row, the Lee County Sheriff’s Department beat the Tupelo Fire Department in the Battle of the Badge lip sync contest.
The NMMC Outpatient Rehabilitation Center Team won Best Decorated Team Site, followed by the Renasant Bank Team in second place and Avonlea in third.
The NMMC Outpatient Rehabilitation Center Team won first place in the Team Talent Contest; the NMMC Food and Nutrition Team won second, and the NMMC Heart Institute Team placed third.
In the Birthday Cake Contest, the NMMC Facts and Figures Team placed first, followed by the NMMC Human Resources Team in second place and the NMMC Radiation Oncology Team in third.
Mabel Murphree served as honorary chairperson for this year’s event. Jane Pickett was honored with Project Hope’s annual Special Angel award. Outback Steakhouse donated the evening meal, with all proceeds benefiting Project Hope.
