Fire burns out two Saltillo businesses

SALTILLO – Two businesses and two warehouses were destroyed Monday night by a fire that roared through the adjoining businesses.

BMC Sales and Keyes’ Insurance Agency were leveled by the fire that was reported about 10 p.m. Monday on state Highway 145 in Saltillo.

By the time firefighters arrived on the scene, the building was fully engulfed in flames. It took less than 30 minutes to get the flames under control.

The fire is believed to have originated in the insurance agency, but a cause had not been determined.

Property loss is expected to exceed $300,000, said Kim Bumpers, co-owner of BMC Sales. She and her husband, Perry, also owned the building occupied by Keyes Insurance, BMC’s showroom, office space and two warehouses that were damaged by the fire. A beauty salon located at the farthest end of the building was not damaged.

BMC sells gas and wood-burning fireplaces, mantles and other fireplace-related items. The business had been at the location for five years and employed six people.

Bumpers is asking her customers to call 869-2619 to find out about installation, back orders or any other business. The company’s computer, inventory list and all other items were lost in the fire.

Bumpers said she and her husband plan to rebuild as soon as possible.
