Fire destroys commercial building in Corinth

djournal-fire-stockCORINTH – Corinth and Alcorn County firefighters needed more than three hours to contain a fire that erupted about 6 p.m. Tuesday at the former Howell Lumber building on U.S. Highway 72 that housed Tina’s Treasures flea market.

The building suffered heavy fire and smoke damage throughout, said Corinth Fire Chief Billy “Lucky” Briggs.

Volunteer fire departments throughout the county helped the city fire department fight the blaze, Briggs said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and Briggs said he expects a state fire marshal will be at the scene today to begin his examination.
