VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) — Firefighters at a woods fire near Vicksburg find 12 chained pit bull terriers — three of them with severe wounds.
Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace tells The Vicksburg Post that the wounds and scars indicated that the dogs had been illegally fought.
He says the property owner is not thought reponsible for the dogs, but investigators are following leads and hope to make an arrest.
Deputies and staff from the Vicksburg-Warren Humane Society took the dogs to the humane society headquarters Friday.
Humane Society president Georgia Lynn says the dogs probably won’t be adoptable.
She could not be reached Sunday for comment.
